That is the consul, firstly you have to remove the centre section as in the first picture, the fit two alignment pins and remove the consul. According to the MOT manual it is not permissible to weld suspension components, the bracket is £194.92, 1K0 199 296 J.
Could you tell me what you mean by alignment pins pls? The place that sells car parts tools etc is close tomorrow so whatever I need I have to buy today! So if i can purchase these i will or if i can make them i will if I have to. Any other specialist tools you can think of I might need? I've got torque wrench only other thing I can think of is a massive can of wd40!
Also do you have any idea how much a garage would charge to replace this part for me? Roughly? As I'm considering handing it over to pro's. Like I said I have the replacement bracket would just be labour fee?

Really appreciate your advice @Crasher Tried every golf/VW forum your only person to take the time to reply. So thanks alot

You need a pair of T10096 and you can get the Laser set (9145) of four of these for £28. These are use in the front consul bolt location and the outer consul bush location before the rest of the fasteners are removed. They are quite a tight fit and often we have to use a rotary wire bush in the bore to remove corrosion. In theory, these maintain the vehicles alignment. If you join erWin you can download all instructions for 7 Euro and if you plan you attack, you can download and save as a pdf the entire workshop manual for the car including workshop and recall information on known faults.
