Usually this is failure of the gasket around the window mechanism mounting panel and means a full door strip down the deal with, we replace the foam strip with non setting Butyl rubber cord. We use a rotary wire brush in a drill to rub the old seal off (not all the way around, just a few inches up each side) and then wipe the area with solvent before spraying a coat of zinc primer. When that is dry we apply the rubber cord.

It is a couple of hours work if the person knows what they are doing and has done one before so roughly £120 at the typical VAG indi and a few £'s for the cord.

Quite a few areas on the aging cars all down to design and seals perishing .

Easy test for the brose seals .
