Hi everyone,

I am an independent electronics developer and this year I with a team have started and almost completed my new project - Digifiz Replica.

Features:

  • Panel re-drawn from a real Digifiz hardware
  • LED indication
  • Bluetooth LE control from Android/IOS
  • Digital speedometer from the stock cable or from the speed sensor
  • Emergency indication and oil pressure warnings
  • Oil, air, coolant temperature measurements
  • Gasoline level measurements
  • Full replication of most of original Digifiz features, including MFA
  • No need for extra hardware, compatible with the stock Golf2/Jetta2 wiring. MFA functions are replicated using one sensor button.
  • Implemented in the stock enclosure of Golf 2
  • Compatible with a restyled Mk1 too!

The device is now under test on a real Jetta 2 and is preparing for production.
There are 14 variants of hardware:

  • GACT - Gasoline Assembled Cable speedometer Two-socket
  • GACS - Gasoline Assembled Cable speedometer Single-socket
  • GART - Gasoline Assembled Remote speed sensor from gearbox Two-socket
  • GARS - Gasoline Assembled Remote speed sensor from gearbox Single-socket
  • GACT8 - Gasoline Assembled Cable speedometer Two-socket, up to 8000 RPM scale
  • GACS8 - Gasoline Assembled Cable speedometer Single-socket, up to 8000 RPM scale
  • GART8 - Gasoline Assembled Remote speed sensor from gearbox Two-socket, up to 8000 RPM scale
  • GARS8 - Gasoline Assembled Remote speed sensor from gearbox Single-socket, up to 8000 RPM scale
  • DACT - Diesel Assembled Cable speedometer Two-socket, up to 6000 RPM
  • DART - Diesel Assembled Remote speed sensor from gearbox Two-socket, up to 6000 RPM
  • DACS - Diesel Assembled Cable speedometer Single socket, up to 6000 RPM
  • DARS - Diesel Assembled Remote speed sensor from gearbox Single socket, up to 6000 RPM
  • MS - Manual assembly for single socket
  • MT - Manual assembly for two sockets
Project firmware sources will be opened under the GPL license.
The price for the main device(GACT) is still under discussion, but I hope it will be below 400 USD.

Digifiz Replica 3d printing

The second part is a hardware preservation project for the original Digifiz. We've re-drawn the original dashboard parts in 1:1 and it is ready for 3d printing, so you can make your own Digifiz assembly(however you still need its hardware and display to make it working)
This project is intended for editorial purposes and for the preservation of rare and unique item. The dashboard provides a cool sports car look to your automobile. The replication is suitable for some exhibitions, installations and for the 80s look retro and vintage items.

What about miles per hour speed/odo and fuel in gallons?

There is a coefficient in the firmware that can be changed through BLE/B2.0, so it will work.
The only thing really should be changed is a KM/H sign on a plastic panel drawing. I am sure it is not a problem, I can manufacture even custom displays.
Regarding fuel, you can just enter tank size in gallons and not in litres, so it will show it :)
