Is the idle poor?

 

Idle is perfect including getting up to 4000 rpm.

 

Start with a code read, that there are no warning lights doesn't mean a code isn't stored.

 

Okay, I will check it tonight.

 

And not with a generic OBDII reader, these often miss codes.

 

I have a code now after the engine management light came on.

P0341

I am using a generic reader as i cant get an appointment for a full diagnostic for a few days.

 

16725 (P0341) Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal

This was my initial suspicion, the cam chain has jumped.

 

Before i go back to the mechanic, is that the only thing it could be?

The sensors are working, the ECU sees a difference in their timing, the next step is to peg and plate the engine to see if the alignment is correct

 

Both crankshaft and camshaft locating tools went in with no effort.

Spark plugs are whiteish and the gap was just under 0.8mm

I had an advisory on my MOT that there is a slight leak on the exhaust flexi pipe.

I have cleared the code and gone out for a drive, stopping engine and restarting and going above 4000 rpm and everything seems okay.

Should i still have the diagnostics done?
