High Pressure Fuel Pump Failure in Golf 1.6TDI 2016

Hi Folks,

My beloved 2016 Golf Match 1.6 TDI DSG with only 120KM (75k miles) has had a HP fuel pump failure and the main dealer is saying likely to be dirty fuel has caused the problem. They have identified some metal filings in the fuel pump and because of the risk that these are in the fuel system, The fuel pump, fuel ring management, injectors and fuel lines need to be replaced costing about EUR 7K.

The car has always been serviced at a main dealer and fuel has always been purchased from reputable franchises. I have never put petrol in the car in error!!. The car is in perfect nick otherwise. Before this issue car might have been worth about EUR16K. Was hoping to get another year or so out of it before trading. Of course the car is out of warranty and I did not expect to have to extend on a VW engine.

Any advice on options for repair. Garage acknowledges they will have to do everything by the VW handbook to ensure warranty on the work. Do I have options to limit the cost of repair? There was a HPFP issue in the US and VW extended the warranty. Wondering if this is a common issue in IRL and UK or is it just very bad luck!!

Grateful for any comments.

That is the CAYC engine, an utter disaster but one caused by ridiculous CO2 targets which are now so bad they are killing off the internal combustion engine, intentionally...

Possibly, the injectors are key to this engines operation.

That is a disaster, in VW dealer repair terms a write off. What is the VIN?
