Immobiliser

On safe , my word!, followed guide main dealer new key , dealer unable to code key recommend new immobiliser is this within the cluster , could the cluster be repaired does it work ? Touran 2007 costing me a fortune.

Yes the immobilser is integral with the cluster. What is the VIN

Thanks for taking an interest WVGZZZ1TZ8W072416 the cost of the cluster is beyond what I can afford and in any case it’s on back order with no expectation of a delivery any time soon , the only alternative as I see it is a cluster repair but I am not sure if these repairs work , as the mileage is only 8900 ish I dont want to swap out the cluster for a used cluster etc Yo !!

The cluster, 1T0 920 964 A Z02, may not be just on back order, it is probaly obsolete. What happened? How did the main dealer get the car?

Thanks again having had the vehicle “diagnosed” that clearly listed car key immobiliser as a fault so having read that main dealers are the best bet and with two good car key guys unable to code the key to the vehicle I followed the VW guide and purchased a key and transported the vehicle to the main dealer who can’t get the car started and as the part , I agree is obsolete, what are the chances of actronics or similar being able to repair the cluster is.Main dealer cost me a fortune with no benefit other than being told what I already knew !! Thanks for taking an interest the vehicles only got 8900 miles and reluctant to scrap !!

ACTronics may be able to help but you would need to go through one of their agents. Something that bothers me is a faulty dash is highly unusual, this fault is usually the ignition lock barrel reader coil; do you know the fault code number?

Please post the full car VCDS scan as a .txt file and include the VIN. For the main dealer to misdiagnose a 1T problem would not surprise me one bit, most of their techs were in infant school when it went out of production.

The dealer tech who did that job is either inexperienced, an idiot or doesn't care, that is classic reader coil failure. A few weeks ago, I had a Golf 5 (same thing electrically) recovered out of a local Kwik Fit as it developed this problem during an MOT an understandably it is out of their comfort zone. It already had a new key and coil previously but you can't buy that anymore, only the barrel and coil matched to the key the car was built with. All you SHOULD have to do it remove the barrel (very easy, literally plug and play) and push in a new barrel and it will go. The problem is the only way to get a barrel and reader coil is genuine VW and they are a Vehicle Intelligent Part which has to be ordered and paid for up front and then takes around two weeks to come from Germany. Part number 107 905 855 CF and MUST be ordered to the VIN, costs ÂŁ297.60 inc.

Many thanks to “Crasher” his knowledge and experience makes ANYTHING he suggests extremely valuable . My vehicle is being examined by a diagnostic expert in this area and of course I will update this post on the outcome . Word of advice to those purchasing from the wide array of OBD readers IMO it’s a science in itself analysing the outcome data and It’s not an exact science . Also dormant cars especially older ones are at risk of needing electrical parts that have become obsolete or extortionate and it’s the breakers yard to MAYBE save the day . Happy motoring !! Yes, many VAG cars over 10 years old are now at risk of being unusable due to critical genuine only electronic components being obsolete and used ones imposible to code in.

To provide more detail of potential costs and pressures in taking on a dormant vehicle, new battery , two seized locking nuts, new wipers required , four new tyres required , had the vehicle mobile scanned told revealed immobiliser “key” code was not the key, more details to follow, due to the scan “trusted “ the local main dealer to be capable of coding the key which I paid a fortune for , eventually they allocated the fault to the immobiliser and recommended replacing a part they must have known was obsolete and left me up the proverbial creek , and they charged me a fortune in labour in doing so , very very luckily the great guy who was transporting the vehicle to the main dealer knew another great guy , a mechanic , whose nephew was a diagnostic expert and he achieved what the main dealer could not .
