Because I can see exactly what it is and its WVGZZZ5NZKW312132

Yours has the DQ381 box and these are turning into a serious problem, DO NOT let VW do the software update.

What do you recommend my options are. VW UK have offered a 70/30 cost split with the original dealer but the dealer will not entertain the 30% split & VW have said that if the dealer won't entertain it they will not offer the 70% even if I pay the 30%.

That is a bizarre situation, offer the dealer the 30% on the QT so VW play ball? The mech costs ÂŁ1,564.22 plus VAT and fitting/fluid.

The Dealer won't / can't do that. As i bought the car from VW Robinsons of Stafford in lockdown & they delivered not up to Co Durham is making the whole situation difficult.
The local VW garage will not support either.

I would suggest finding a local VAG specialist equipped with ODIS (very important) and get them to order in and fit a new Mech. This will have to be paid for up front in full and the order cannot be canceled or the part returned for ANY reason even if it is faulty upon installation, strange but true...

My dad had a 2016 1.4L Audi A3 e-tron and the mechatronic failed there at 52,000 back in late 2021. Repaired under Arnold Clark warranty but was quoted ÂŁ3.5k from memory. Got rid shortly after. Wouldn't personally trust any VAG DSG box anymore. He's got a 2018 Audi A6 Black Edition 2.0TDI Ultra now...has replaced the oils at 38k so here's hoping it doesn't meet the same fate.

The problem is there are a lot of different VAG DSG boxes made by different external companies and in house so you shouldn't tar them all with the same bush so to speak.

The 7 speed dry clutch DQ200 made by LUK and is a piece of junk, the 7 speed DQ381 made in China by VAG subsidiary Volkswagen Automatic Transmission (Tianjin) Co Ltd is a disaster, the 6 speed DQ250 made by Borg Warner is excellent, near bullet proof unless stupidly abused with daft engine power. The 7 speed DQ500 also made by Borg Warner is very strong and can take serious torque such as in a modified TTRS. The Audi collaboration with Borg Warner DL501 is an awful thing and can easily write off a 6 year old Audi A6 quattro with it s ÂŁ10K+ price tag. We had one in yesterday for a fingers crossed oil change but the 10 year old A5 cabrio V6 TDI quattro will be going to the scrap yard. The DQ400E Borg Warner designed in collaboration with VW in the hybrids is laughable.

Just stumbled across this.

My 2017 7 speed DSG failed few weeks back.

3 days to diagnose,

35,000 miles with full service history and VW want nothing to do with it.

Not happy, genuinely a good car but a widely known fault with no apparent "recall"

Any ideas ?

That will be the DQ200 box unless it is a big engine model, simply not fit for purpose.

There has been a widespread problem with VW mechatronics units leading to thousands of VWs being recalled in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan. However, despite the fact that UK-built VWs use the same specification DQ200 gearbox as the Australian-built cars, with the units also built in the same factory, there have been no recalls in the UK.

I am therefore interested to know who like myself may have had to replace their mechatronics unit and how old your car is? Would appreciate your input as I am wondering if there is a problem which VW UK is not acknowledging?
Hi, new to the forum.
I have a 2021 registered Tiguan DSG Elegance model with 36k on the clock. Last week a warning flashed up "Gearbox in emergency mode, no reverse gear". I was escorted to VW Sinclair Cardiff by VW assist. I have just received confirmation from them that the Mechatronics needs replacing at a cost of ÂŁ3k it is 7 weeks out of warranty. They say they will pay half. Surely this should not happen to a relatively young vehicle !

No it shouldn’t but it does, time and time again, Schaeffler group are the culprits, not VW.

What is the cars VIN?

March 2024 49k miles Gearbox aux pump leaking.Went to same independent VW Specialist, as main dealer too busy too look at it, my Independent VW Specialist cannot get the parts as VW parts supplier in UK cannot get / or order them from VW not even on back order, not allowed on VW order system !!
