Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this Forum and I am hoping that some kind soul will be able to help me with the problems I am having with my "new" GTD?!

It is a 2014 Golf GTD with DSG transmission. It is a one owner (before me) car and has about 150K on the odometer and I have only had the car a few weeks.
When driving it the car felt a bit sluggish but I put it down to it needing a full service and DSG filter and oil change.

Now that my local mechanic has done all this, the car does feel more lively but I am still finding that when I first start the car in the morning, the car does not start crisply but tends to stutter for several seconds before firing up. After that, it will start crisply every time-really odd?!

However, the main issue that I am having is that whenever I accelerate hard, the engine management light (coil shape) comes on and the car goes sluggish. Once the ignition is turned off and the car restarted, the warning light is gone and the car will drive normally until I accelerate hard again and then the same thing happens!!

Does anyone have any explanation for this and/or suggestions as to what could be done to solve the problems.

Thanking you in advance.

Regards, Ghaz

It is going into what is known as “limp mode” to protect the engine and this will have stored a fault code on the engine ECU...BUT it may not be an OBDII emissions code (a “P” code) so proper VAG specific diagnostic equipment will be needed to guarantee an accurate result.

Its nice to see you made an intro on your own. ;)

Which DSG transmission 6 speed or 7 speed?

I would says its a 6 speed if you've have the oil and filter changed.

As suggested: You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.

Thanks for your replies- much appreciated!
As you say, it's a 6 speed DSG gearbox on this one.

Just to update you all, the mechanic reckons that his diagnostic equipment points to a faulty fuel pressure sensor. I have ordered a replacement today (from Central Audi and VW specialists for £58] and I will let you know how it is once the new part has been fitted.

Unfortunately it is usually the high pressure fuel pump, do you know if it has had a fuel filter recently?

Do you know (or can subtly enquire) if and how they purge bled the system before starting it or if they just did it the old way and cranked until it started?

Hi, I just asked my wife about this because she took the car to the mechanic for the service. Apparently, he took the fuel filter out of the housing, then took the housing itself out and cleaned it. He then refitted the housing into the car, placed the new filter in and poured diesel into the housing before bolting the top of the filter housing down. When he started the vehicle up later, it started up first time. Hope that helps?

Not the correct method but it should be OK IF iit continued to run without stalling or even wobbling about, you are supposed to run the in tank pump (and electric high pressure pump fitted to some models) for about two minutes before starting or the mechanical high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) can run dry and so it eats itself as the hardens steel gear runs dry in the aluminum body which then throws ally particles through the system and into the injectors where it cannot be removed. Putting this right means completely cleaning the entire fuel system including the tank and electric pump(s) plus a new HPFP, inectors, timing belt kit and water pump and using genuine parts that is around £3500 plus labour.
